FlakeGradeSample grading report

Mill sample — 19 Oct 2026

Every flake in the photo was detected, separated, measured and graded individually against the 7-grade master standard. Below: the grade mix versus the master, every flake marked on the image, example flakes for each grade, the size distribution, and the full per-flake measurement table.

How this report was produced

FlakeGrade computer-vision pipeline
  1. Surface isolation — the sheet is found as the largest low-saturation region; the table, hands and labels outside it are ignored.
  2. Flake segmentation — CIELAB gate (chroma > 30, hue 40–105°, L* 25–92); thin bridges cut by morphological opening; only cream-coloured interior holes (germ) are filled, never white gaps.
  3. Instance separation — clumps that are oversized or concave (solidity < 0.86) are split: seeds at distance-transform maxima, then geodesic seeded region-growing so touching flakes are counted once each with no pixel lost.
  4. Measurement — per flake: Feret length (max caliper), min-Feret width, equivalent diameter √(4A/π), solidity A/Ahull, circularity 4πA/P² (Crofton perimeter), CIELAB L*/a*/b*, chroma, pale-germ and dark pixel shares, interior roughness σ(L*).
  5. Classification — batch-relative cascade: Broken (small & ragged) → Joint (> 2.3× median area) → Small (Ø below limit) → Embryo (germ share) → Hard (L* robust-z < −1.5) → Unpolished (roughness / dullness) → Pure.
Read these figures as a demonstration, not a lab assay.

Scale: no reference object was in frame, so millimetres assume the white sheet is mm wide (A1) → mm/px. Exact mm needs a reference of known size in the photo.

Image: a 1280×720 compressed phone photo. Shape and size grades (Pure, Joint, Small) are robust at this resolution; the fine surface grades (Embryo, Unpolished, Broken) need the capture station's fixed camera and lighting plus the trained on-site model.
